Sound Connections, the organisation that hosts Wired4Music, is seeking to appoint two 

members of Wired4Music (age 18-25) as trustees.

What is a trustee?


  • Have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do.
  • Trustees are the people who lead the charity and decide how it is run.
  • Being a trustee means making decisions that will impact on people’s lives.
  • Depending on what the charity does, you will be making a difference to your local community or to society as a whole.
  • Trustees use their skills and experience to support their charities, helping them achieve their aims.
  • Trustees also often learn new skills during their time on the board.


What is Sound Connections?

Sound Connections:

  • Is a music education charity
  • Our mission is to develop, enable and empower young Londoners through music.
  • It works in partnership with other organisations to strengthen and fill gaps in music provision so that all children and young people have access to music opportunities.
  • Sound Connections hosts Wired4Music, the network for musically-minded Londoners age 16-25.
  • In addition to hosting Wired4Music, Sound Connections brings together organisations and practitioners working across four key music specialisms: Challenging Circumstances, Early Years, Youth Voice and Sector & Workforce Development.

Meeting 2 as trustee: 

  • 3 Feb 2022

Meeting 3 as trustee:

The trustee role comes to an end in:

  • July 2022

How will you be supported?

You will be assigned trustee buddies from the existing trustees who will act as

peer mentors, helping you to:

  • settle into the role;
  • learn about the papers and documents trustees have to read and comment on;
  • understand your responsibilities, processes, protocols and meeting structure;
  • and answer questions that you have about being a Sound Connections trustee.

If at any point in the process, the appointed trustees decide to step down (for

example if they decide it isn’t what they expected or their circumstances

change) they will be supported to leave the board of trustees and be

signposted to other opportunities.

Are trustees paid?

No. When you become a trustee, you volunteer your services and won’t

receive payment for your work. However, trustees can claim reasonable expenses, for example:

  • Travel to and from trustee meetings
  • Telephone calls and broadband time for charity work
  • Childcare or care of other dependants while attending meetings


As Wired4Music members, the two trustees appointed will still be able to receive

payment for other Wired4Music opportunities not related to the trustee role.


Role specification and criteria

Applicants must be:

  • Age 18-25 at time of applying
  • Based in London
  • A member of Wired4Music (it is free to sign up )
  • Involved in music/ have understanding of music opportunities for young people
  • Available to observe the meeting on 29 July
  • Able to commit to four trustee meetings and other occasional meetings and events

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview with Sound Connections Chair of Trustees and Director.


Wired4Music staff will be on hand to provide advice and guidance before the interview.


Interviews will take place on 22 and 23 June 2021.
