Wired4Music was founded on the belief that young people should have a say in their own musical futures. In order to realise this ambition, our members have produced their own manifesto which sets out five areas of need: opportunities, investment, progression, community and unity.

Wired4Music members and partners from the music, tech and media sectors met at Rich Mix to discuss actions within the opportunities strand of the manifesto. The council has asked for:

Increased communication about musical opportunities across London

“Opportunities are out there, but we don’t always know where to find them” our members explain. Things are oftentimes communicated in a confusing way, the information can be overwhelming and not very well joined up. The council wants to look for clear and easy ways to communicate information about musical opportunities in their area and farther afield.

Clearer information about musical opportunities across London

The council asks for an audit of the musical offer is in London, clarifying what is out there for young musicians. They want to outline the things that young musical Londoners look for in an opportunity (e.g. safety, accessibility, affordability).

Coherent and connected progression opportunities

There is a great deal of support available in London for young musicians emerging as educators, performers, policy-makers and performers. Our members express feelings of anxiety as they progress “how do I know what I should do next?”  The different options need to be clearly communicated and joined up so young people can have access to all of the best opportunities.

We are now looking for ways to act!

Members have suggested the idea of a Wired4Music App, find out more about their idea here: http://youtu.be/rulK4PeHhm8. The next step will be a focus group to develop this idea further. We’ll keep you updated!
