Last month Sabrina Li joined us for a webinar about her journey breaking into the music industry as an A&R and music manager. 

About Sabrina

Originally from Hong Kong, Sabrina moved to the UK to study sociology at the University of Nottingham where she befriended W4M’s Tee Peters.  Despite not knowing much about the creative space, Sabrina always knew that she wanted to be in the music industry.

At University, she found herself meeting people with the same music tastes as her and became the Co-founder and Social secretary of MOBO (Music of Black Origin) society.

The Pandemic

After graduating from University, Sabrina was determined to finesse her way to LA.  She found a UCLA course that allowed her to move to LA and work while immersing herself in the music scene… until COVID hit, forcing Sabrina to move back to London.

Sabrina wasted no time during lockdown.  She built an extensive network of industry professionals and creatives across the globe by attending webinars, cold emailing, and reaching out to people on LinkedIn.

Sabrina decided to shoot her shot with her favourite R&B singer Emmavie on Instagram where she expressed interest in working with her.  A week later, Sabrina joined Emmavie’s management team and from there had been introduced to countless artists/producers associated with Soulection, who Sabrina had been listening to for a few years.

It’s been over a year since Sabrina broke into the music industry and she’s killing it!  Sabrina is now out in LA working as a Freelance Music Manager and a Product Manager at Too Lost distribution helping artists with their marketing rollout and does account management.

When describing her role Sabrina said “when you’re an Artist Manager you kind of take on 11 different tasks” whether using her network to connect other creatives with each other or giving artists feedback on their songs.

Sabrina continues to manage Emmavie and works with an impressive roster of Grammy-award winning artists –  Lucky Daye, Frank Dukes, and Che Ecru to name a few.
