Speaker – Nathan

“My name is Nathan, I am 21 years old, and currently studying Writing for Performance at university. My favourite musicians are Adele, Meat Loaf and Queen, and I was lucky enough to meet Adam Lambert a few years ago, who was really nice! I was involved in the Generate project in 2018, when I was writing and developing a musical theatre project. I am so grateful for all of the help and support that the organisation gave me, and that we have kept in touch! I cannot wait to be part of their 10th anniversary celebrations!”

Performer – Sacha

“My first ever performance was from a supermarket trolley at age three: it was Blondie’s ‘Maria’. Safe to say it was a life-changing moment because, since then, I have never stopped. As a child I was constantly involved with music. After school, I was accepted to study Popular Music at The RNCM and stayed for a year. It was a huge learning curve where in this time I wrote music for film projects, worked with some incredible musicians and was able to play at some great venues. Now, I am working to release my own music, with debut sounds to be airing soon!”

Speaker – Ben Kelly

“My interest in music began when I developed a passion for singing resulting in me performing in choirs and various school musicals, in addition to receiving a Distinction in Grade 8 Singing. I also began playing the piano, which started from grade level and gradually I prefered to play by ear.

It was not until 2016 that I became interested in producing music digitally. I began making grime beats on Logic Pro X in my bedroom; to this day Logic is my main workstation, on occasion, I also like to use Ableton Live as well depending on various tasks such as sampling.”

Performer – Zoka the Author

Zoka The Author is a young rapper, poet, scriptwriter, and (you guessed it) author from East London. Writing stories from the age of 6, Zoka has always been enchanted by the power of language to transform the world we live in. His literary roots are clearly evident in the 3 EP’s he has dropped so far, each a carefully crafted lyrical journey through struggles with growth, self-acceptance and heartbreak.

Zoka has been able to make significant headway in his 2 year music career whilst balancing it with his university degree. Not only did he successfully tour a collaborative Hip-Hop/poetry album round the nation, he also attracted the attention of BBC Introducing Norfolk, certifying him as one of the most promising Hip-Hop artists in the region. To top it all off, he gained national and international fame from news outlets spanning from Germany to Indonesia for creating a rap album for his Creative Writing dissertation – and getting a First-Class Honours for it!

Having now finished his degree, Zoka has returned to London and hit the ground running, releasing a visually stunning debut music video, No Chains. And with several singles and a new project on the horizon, he shows no signs of slowing down.

Presenter: Pritt

R&B artist Pritt emerges from a Tamil background which has influenced her style immensely, allowing herself to be as expressive as possible to take a pivotal stance in her art and proud of her culture.

South London raised songstress’ uses her femininity to empower stereotypes of women in urban music and takes an ‘Eastern meets Western’ stand on her music; an un-orthodox approach on honest relatable lyrics couples with Carnatic melisma. Pritt whom uses her ethnicity being Tamil, presents her music with pride inflicting Asian implications which pulsate throughout the melodic steps; trap overwhelms yet compliments the artist’s voice marrying the genre and the peculiarity as one. Her debut EP “unknown” is a perfect example of this – released May 25th 2018.

Over the past couple years, she has worked with BBC 1Xtra presenter Sian Anderson on a project called NEXXT STEP: Women in Music sponsored by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. The project released an EP called BEHIND EVERY GREAT CITY where she featured on Isolate (feat. Pritt & Toaozay) and Out of Her Mind (feat. Pritt & Jamila Kabir). She is currently working with grime rapper Chip and his label, Cash Motto on a project soon to be released. As of February 2020, she was made BBC 1Xtra’s Introducing Track of the Week for her recent release: Tunnel Vision and has had wide exposure on the BBC as a whole.

A year like no other 2020 has had a very different outcome to how most of the world expected! For Jenem, a proudly Mancunian singer-songwriter, it has been a year of developing production skills and releasing a number of self-produced and collaborative records. Latest release Born Dreaming is an upbeat acoustic pop track with a  force of positivity, affectionately termed ‘too positive’ by reviewers but surely what we need in these challenging times! As well as releasing music 2020 has seen Jenem start several weekly livestream shows including a live songwriting show on Twitch, dubbed Let’s Get Lyrical where the audience participates in writing new music. With the new year just on the horizon the rest of 2020 is set to be shaped by a final few releases under the more acoustic umbrella (of which Jenem owns many living in rainy Manchester), a growing audience on Twitch, and a set of YouTube videos to celebrate the 1 year anniversary of her 2019 release, Skyline.
