Ever wondered how theatre lighting works? Are you passionate about technology and electronics? Are you practical and good at problem solving? Are you great in a team and up for a challenge? Then a career backstage might be for you…
The Royal Opera House stages over 500 performances a year and our backstage teams are some of the best theatre craftspeople in the world. We want to give everyone the opportunity to get involved in this creative, exciting and growing industry and we think apprenticeships are great way to get started. An apprenticeship gives you the practical skills and knowledge that will underpin your professional development and access to a network of people who can guide and support you during your career.
What our apprentices say:
-It has taught me invaluable on-the-job experience that textbook learning cannot provide. I have also made lots of connections that have helped me to network for work and industry knowledge.”
This year with the generous support of the Derek Butler Trust we will offer a Lighting Apprenticeship on a Fixed-term contract for 2 years (5th September 2016 – August 2018), Full-time (48 hours per week) based in Covent Garden. This will include study at the National College for the Creative and Cultural Industries for a Level 2 or 3 Apprenticeship in Technical Theatre (Lighting pathway).
Will I be paid?
Yes! £17,971.20 a year (£345.60 per week) before tax, rising 2.5% after successfully completing the first year. College fees will also be paid by the Royal Opera House.
Am I eligible?
1. You must be 18 years old or over on 5 September 2016,
2. Not have completed a university degree or equivalent level qualification in the UK or elsewhere and
3. Have work authorization for the UK.
