Give a Gig Events Intern
Full time, £9.75 per hour – London Living Wage (four month position Jan-April 2017)
About Youth Music
We’re a national charity investing in music-making projects for children and young people experiencing challenging circumstances.
We believe everyone should have the chance to make music.
Our projects help young people develop musically, of course, but they have personal and social outcomes too.
We know that those facing difficulties – economic problems, lifelong conditions, tough circumstances or behavioural issues – are often the ones who get the most out of music-making.
Youth Music offers meaningful chances to young people in complicated situations.
You can help us make a genuine difference to many more young lives. www.youthmusic.org.uk
About this role
Give a Gig is Youth Music’s flagship fundraising initiative. In taking part, musicians from any genre help us transform the lives of children and young people by putting on gigs for their fans, families and friends: any size, any genre, anywhere. The money raised helps Youth Music invest in life-changing music-making projects nationwide.
For 2017, we’re focusing our attention on one week of musical magnificence – we want to see 100 gigs taking place 24-31 March 2017, giving a focal point to our activity, building momentum and buzz around Give a Gig and, of course, raising lots of money for us to invest in music-making projects.
This role will be essential in ensuring that the week is as big a success as possible. You will provide administrative and research support to the Give a Gig Manager and you will be involved in researching venues across England, sending out promotional material, following up to confirm interest, researching promoters and artists’ managers, supporting people uploading gigs on to our website, providing a point of contact for any Give a Gig enquiries, thanking participants and following up on donations.
What you will learn
* How to put together a major fundraising initiative
* How to research and approach music venues, promoters and managers
* What it’s like to work for a national charity
* How to plan events to ensure they generate maximum impact
* Negotiation and influencing techniques
* How to use a fundraising database
* And much more – you’ll be working closely with our Give a Gig Manager and colleagues across the organisation
What we require
* Excellent research skills (eg, potential Give a Gig venues across England, promoters and managers)
* Attention to detail (accurate summaries of potential venues, eg. location, contact details, venue capacity, music genre, artists already scheduled to perform during Give a Gig Week)
* Someone fearless and friendly in following up with potential contacts
* Methodical and well-organised
* Someone passionate about live music – in any form!
