Newsbeat is the flagship youth platform for BBC News, Radio 1 and 1Xtra. It is the most listened to news programme for 16 – 24 year olds across all of BBC News – reaching nearly 9 million people a week. Newsbeatis currently making its mark digitally across social media and is increasing the reach of its stories online aimed at its target audience as it gets ready to merge with BBC News online.
The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants. Priority consideration means for those employees seeking redeployment their application will be considered alongside anyone else at risk of redundancy, prior to any individuals being considered who are not at risk.
Newsbeat investigates issues which affect young people and delivers strong, original journalism on a regular basis. We are looking for strong multimedia journalists who can can work across all platforms – reporting on radio and TV, reading bulletins, writing online and filming their own material as well as having and understanding of relevant social platforms.
To work as part of a 7-day rota.
You will have a track record in delivering original journalism and reporting; we need someone who knows how to create stand-out speech radio and digital content on a daily basis. You will need an understanding of Newsbeat’s target audience, have a passion for Entertainment news and a deep understanding of emerging digital platforms and creative ways of telling stories online.
You will also need to be an experienced multimedia journalist, skilled in radio and digital production technique, with first class writing skills. You will need to have a great voice for radio and experience of working in a digital environment. You will be a self-starter with plenty of initiative; a great team player and have sound editorial judgement and thorough knowledge of legal issues online an on air.
