February 15
Diversity shouldn’t be a dream, but a reality.
Wednesday 15 February 2017, 11am-4pm at Roundhouse, Camden
Wired4Music, London’s network of 16-25s all interested in music, are taking over the Roundhouse for a day of debate, discussion and action on the theme of diversity.
Rising Futures: Participation Now! is about amplifying the voice of people age 16-25s. Now in its fifth year, Rising Futures is more programmed and delivered by people aged 16-25 than ever before. Working in collaboration with staff at Sound Connections, Wired4Music members have programmed the day in response to their experiences as Londoners.
Last year Rising Futures was entitled Make It Happen and involved keynote speeches from young people initiating and running their own projects. This year’s event will build on this theme, exploring how we can make diversity and inclusion a reality through presentations, panel discussions and workshops led by a wide range of young people and organisations representing a diversity of organisations and initiatives. Some of the questions Wired4Music will be asking are:
What kind of facilities can be provided for those who aren’t in education? Are music-making opportunities truly open to all young people in London? Which young Londoners need more representation in music? What music training opportunities are available for free? How do the various music sectors support people with a diverse range of needs, and how can we make sure that all musical young Londoners are being supported?
Together we will tackle and explore these questions and pledge action. The aim of the day is for everyone to leave feeling engaged, enlightened and motivated.
Who is the day for?
We are aiming for a mix of 16-25s and representatives of organisations/projects. If attending as a representative of an organisation/project we invite you to bring one or two of the young people you work with.
What does it involve?
If you’d like to attend, email daisy@sound-connections.org.uk with the subject RF2017
