The competition is open to anyone in London between the ages of 14 – 25 with an interest in photography, regardless of whether they have tried their hand at it yet or not.
The photography competition will take the theme of ‘The Face of Young East London’, and will see young people invited to take photos of themselves, their friends, or anything they feel inspired by in line with the theme, and submit them via Instagram or Twitter, using the #FOYEL hashtag by Sunday 13 December.
Ten entries will be chosen to progress to the next stage. The shortlisted individuals will be asked to respond to a unique brief set by the partners, each individual will receive a Canon D1200 with which to take the pictures along with receiving the opportunity to meet and learn from industry professionals from UEL and the National Portrait Gallery, as well as support and other opportunities to enhance their skills.
These ten finalists will then be asked to submit their favourite portrait alongside four other images to be exhibited within Westfield Stratford City in 2016, selected and curated by the panel of experts, which in its entirety will capture ‘the Face of Young East London’. There will be one overall winner, who will also receive a £250 Westfield voucher.
